IS KOREAN STREET FOOD POPULAR?

Yes absolutely! Since the war ended, Korea was facing a heavy economic crisis. Food became a major issue and even when things stabilized a little, it was hard to enjoy any special items. At that time, the street food wave crossed the whole country. People were poverty stricken but they could still manage to take their families out. The food wasn’t very presentable but it was yummier than the ones in lavish restaurants. Today, everyone from around the world visits South Korea for its street food.

From classics to traditional and modern fusion, you’ll find everything in Korean street food. Seafood, poultry, red meat, and other items are available in the stalls and shops. The sprinkled spices, rich colors, and variety are heaven on earth for all foodies.

Tteokbokki

Tteokbokki is basically a dish made from rice cakes. Are you making face because it is boring? No, not yet! The rice cakes are flavored by soaking them in spicy sauce. Do not think it is lowly because Tteokbokki had its mark even in the Joseon Dynasty. Can you think, royals were always pleased to have it while the commoners couldn’t even think to taste it! Tteokbokki is spicy yet the best savory because of its chewy texture. The tangy sauce gives it the ideal tangy-red color and flavor. There can many things that can be Tteokbokki’s sideline. For instance, roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes, or some sausages.

You are similar to Tteokbokki because you seem laid-back and cool, but from the inside, you are very different. You need adventure in life which is spice for you. However, your mood swings turn you inactive and bland like plain rice cakes.

Soondae / Sundae

You might have heard about this dish as Soondae OR Sundae. This might sound weird and really nauseating but Sundae is yummy although made with the intestines of cows and pigs. Yes, you read it right! The intestines are cleaned and stuffed with different fillings. It can be meat, rice, noodles, anything, and all of these as well. Though spices are added to enhance the taste of the dish and the aroma of sesame lifts it. But still, Sundae’s flavor isn’t complete without the sauces served. It is gummy, spongy, and bland so the perfection comes with sauces. The notable thing is that the sauces vary from region to region and city to city. You might get to have your Sundae with ssamjang sauce and green chili or even just salt and pepper. At times, it is served with boiled liver or Tteokbokki as well.

People imagine very wrong things about you in mind and they don’t even bother to right it. However, you rise above all the hatred and shine brighter every time. This makes you a hero in real life and the one without a cape!
